紀州手まりはの意味は紀州藩の民芸品である手まりを言います。その伝統工芸は、古くは平安時代末期より宮中の女官達が姫君のために手まりを作り始めたことことに由来しています。芯に糸を巻いて手作りで作られています。また、手まりには「末永く丸く納まるように」と言う女性の気持ちがこもっていまして、昔は嫁入り道具のひとつでした。
